Caroline Mayers

MA Textile Design

Caroline Mayers is a textiles artist, maker and mender based in Norfolk. She completed her MA in Textile Design and received The Textile Society’s Postgraduate Bursary Award in 2025.

A see-through tulle dress is overlaid onto an indigo-dyed vintage curtain. The dress looks like it's blending into the wall, almost invisible.

Caroline’s art practice explores the intersection of memory and materiality using textiles as her chosen medium. Rooted in personal narrative, she uses making as a process of self-reflection, drawing on her own embodied experience. Each piece functions both as therapy and as dialogue, creating space for shared connection around themes of identity, gender, and emotional resonance.

A 2-metre quilt dip-dyed in indigo is the backdrop to a dress suspended in air, also indigo-dyed yet the colour fades from dark to pale in contrast to the quilt.

Working with repurposed and organic materials, natural dyes and traditional craft techniques, she embraces imperfection and values slowness in the handmade. Her work invites viewers to encounter these personal reflections while considering their own lived experience. Caroline is continuing her fine art practice, working towards further exhibitions, and developing her arts for wellbeing textiles workshops.

A checked indigo quilt acts as backdrop to a child’s dress suspended in air. The dress has a large hole cut out of the middle, framed with a rusted edge.
A layered tulle cape featuring gilded ribbon has been ripped and mended. Inside it features the words stitched in gold thread, ‘Let Me Rest’.
Words are stitched in brown linen thread on natural linen fabric which has been cut and repaired multiple times. The viewer is unable to make out what the words say.
