Freya Eve Monks

MA Fine Art

My practice is a material-led, process-driven exploration of sculptural relationships, temporality and strength, function and functionless, the absurd and the familiar. I don’t see myself as a sculptor but as an artist who works within the expanded field of sculpture, seeking out unexpected material dialogues between objects.

Precariously assembled found car parts and scrap metal, balanced on scattered breeze blocks

Looking ahead, I aim to apply my adaptable approach in a professional context, ideally working within a contemporary gallery. My practice will progress by being led by site specificity as well as the continuation of collecting objects. I’ve been thinking about making works in the space that I find the objects or in a space where they would be found. Making them feel at home, but unfamiliar.

Scrap carpet and radiators placed on the floor, with two fans pointed at them
Green industrial bag stuffed inside an open window
/
Stacked cardboard boxes, look like they're about to fall over, with a fan pointing at a trapped bag that is caught in between the boxes
