Joanna Cockrell

MA Textile Design

My work celebrates the beauty of nature, focusing on its bright colours and organic shapes. I am inspired by how nature’s patterns and forms can make us feel strong emotions. I express these ideas through abstract art, using feelings and intuition rather than direct representation.

I create with textiles, using dyeing, stitching, and embroidery as my main tools. Dyeing brings rich, layered colours, while stitching adds texture and depth. These techniques help me bring my ideas to life and create tactile, vibrant pieces.

My aim is to invite viewers to experience the raw, expressive beauty of nature in a new and personal way. By combining colour, fabric, and stitch, I hope to show the powerful, ever-changing spirit of the natural world.
