Maisie McCoy

MA Fine Art

Through self and found objects my practice explores vulnerabilities experienced in everyday life. I work with a variety of mediums focusing on the use of PVA as a fine art material alongside photography with unconventional cameras.

Auto-ethnography feeds my creations, partly relying on the imagery of the self or the body to communicate these ideas to my audience. When working with discarded or found objects I relocate them to my studio contemplating their permanent placement. I spend time validating their needs to be cared for, personifying the objects, before encasing them in PVA.

Found Birra Moretti can encased in PVA paired with excess PVA and dirt from can.

My practice attempts to merge both clinical and ethereal aesthetics, using plastic and its interaction with light to showcase these. A physical work often starts with the pouring of liquid PVA and the placement of objects inside, left to dry into its final form. A digital work starts on a scanner bed with object placement or held upright, capturing larger objects like the body.
