My project explores the “Pale Monsters” of Benacre Broad (Suffolk) and integrates them into a coastal journey for visitors. By mimicking the morphology of the Pale Monster, spaces are created where people can stop and rest. Visitors experience a three-stage cycle of life, death, and decay, similar to the cycle of the Pale Monsters.
Visitors begin their journey in the first corridor, with birdwatching units around Benacre Broad, silently observing how birds inhabit the landscape, much like the Pale Monsters do.
They then move to the next corridor to witness the transformation of trees into Pale Monsters, observing the dead trees along the shoreline.
Visitors are then drawn into the Pale Monsters themselves, experiencing their decay through false windows while staying in underground hobbit like lodges that blend into the natural environment.
