BA Illustration
I am a Filipino artist who was brought up and based on the Isle of Man. My practice involves exploring new media and processes outside of illustration, including metal fabrication and textiles. I am passionate about narrative based work, character designs and observational drawings.
For this project, I have focused on illustrating cultural beliefs, specifically Filipino mythology. A horror narrative surrounding “The Manannangal”, an evil shape-shifting creature known to detach its upper half and sprout bat wings to hunt for human prey at night. It is believed that, through black magic, you can summon a stone which holds its evil powers. If consumed, the Manannangal can possess and live through the host.
I created an immersive installation depicting a protection altar set in a catholic church. I produced a bronze chalice to protect the stone from society, including a digitally printed fabric, on which I embroidered in important areas.
