BA Textile Design
Fran is a Textiles Designer, specialising in knitwear, passionate about creating structural designs centred around the body.
‘Beauty Unveiled’ celebrates and promotes body positivity in women. Inspired by the female form, delving into perceived ‘imperfections’, such as wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite. ‘Unveiling’ the beauty behind these through stitches. ‘Beauty Unveiled’ touches on her own experiences with body acceptance as a woman, using the medium of knit to resonate with a wide audience.
Crochet, Domestic, wet-felting, Stoll and Dubied fabrics give the collection a dense and lightweight feel, reflecting the nature of no two sections of the body being alike.
Techniques used throughout encapsulate a narrative behind the making. Hand-spun yarn, repurposes scrap yarn, depicting the female body as a remarkable vessel, able to give life to new creations. Knitted stitches are comparable to the ‘fabric’ like aspect of human skin, intertwining texture and colour.
