Freya Oakes
BA Animation
I’m a multidisciplinary puppet fabricator and character designer, creating content that feels alive by shaping a soul within the world of storytelling. I blend the mundane and peculiar, bringing characters to life with a unique touch. I harbour curiosity for narrative anthropology and embrace a tactile, handmade approach to fabrication, ranging from woodcraft and paper puppets to monster clay sculpture. I enjoy experimenting with different materials and take risks while maintaining realistic expectations.
In “The Lost and Found Room,” a collaborative project with Maggie Sobolewska, we explore imposter syndrome through immersive stop motion animation and point-and-click storytelling. Drawing on my skills honed at Curveball Media and through collaboration, this project showcases my management, creativity, mechanical and fabrication expertise. Overall, I embrace challenges, development in a hard-working environment to push me within my creative practice.
