Grace Lawrence
BA Textile Design
Grace is a Knit Textile Designer with a love of beautiful, practical knitwear. Her degree project, ‘To Return’, builds on her industry research into British wool, to design woollen fabrics for layering in outdoor use.
The collection’s colour and materiality reference the hues and textures of natural landscapes. By juxtaposing traditional knitwear with waterproof materials and technical trims, Grace reimagines knitwear in a contemporary hiking context, integrating visibility and adjustability into her designs.
In her practice, Grace combines hand-knitting, crochet, and domestic, Dubied and Stoll machine knitting to create a range of textiles with an emphasis on, stitch, colour, and natural fibres. She enjoys the experimental sampling process in which she translates inspiration from drawings to materials.
Throughout her degree, Grace has developed practical and digital specialist design skills in response to a range of creative briefs, for which she has received industry recognition.
