Josie Barnett
BA Fine Art
Abandoning the artifice of beauty, my practice is immersed in the grit of urban decay, collecting stories and imagery of social injustices to voice shared issues that trouble our everyday lives.
My process, an energetic exploration of raw emotion manifested through serendipitous washes and gestural marks, conjure depth from two dimension and celebrate the sensual pleasure of oil paint. Large canvasses of figurative abstraction provide a journey through menacing darkness to glimmers of hope and playfulness.
With an intentional move to provoke contemplation and excitement, my work, reminiscent of legendary storytelling murals and political street art, demand both attention and interpretation. The creation of epic scenes of imposing visual complexity that capture the extremes of human emotion are available for both public and domestic clients and you are warmly invited to attend private viewings at The Units, a Norwich based social enterprise by contacting my email.
