My graduate collection ‘ Summer Memoirs’ reflects my fondest memories as a child growing up in the British countryside and spending long summers in Portugal.
With the aim to create timeless and elegant garments I have merged sources of inspiration into my designs particularly challenging materiality and technology, which was inspired by cork and Portuguese Azulejos. Looking at saddlery has also informed how I’ve constructed a few of my garments and helped me push materiality by sewing heritage materials such as cork for my other outfits. Other details with in my collection such as ruching are inspired by traditional countryside roles such as milkmaids and the cottage core aesthetic.
Making my final collection has really helped me develop as a designer and a maker, helping me gain confidence. Using the laser cutter for my designs really added depth to my garments, having access to this technology allowed me to be pushed out of my comfort zone and learn a new variety of skills.
