Rhea Gathercole
BA Interior Design
As a designer, I focus on curating human-centric spaces, putting the user at the root of what I do. I create adaptable environments that allow people to feel settled and safe yet inspired. The projects I deliver predominantly fall into the healthcare sector, and I see this aspect of interest to be one that carves my career path.
I believe in the immense power of creativity identity as a vehicle for growth, and I will continue to encourage myself and support my peers towards out-of-the-box thinking.
My final project, ‘Turning Point’ combines mesmeric crafts, in this case wheel thrown pottery, with talking therapy in order to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, making it easier to talk about the tough topics.
The design allows users to manipulate and adjust their environments, providing different spaces for reflection, anxiety, sadness… whatever the user needs. This project is about providing a coping space for those suffering with mental health disorders and breaking down the stigma.
