Rose Marshall
BA Fine Art
Rose Marshall achieved a BA in Fine Art and has now relocated to her hometown in Sheffield where she continues to build on her abstract painting practice.
Rose Marshall explores shape, line and colour through oil painting. She uses an automatic process inspired by the surrealists, to create abstract compositions focusing on the layering of gestural marks which create a realm of her own. The foremost forms are paramount to the work; however, they give no indication to what role they play, adding to the nonsensical nature of Marshall’s paintings.
Colour is central to Marshall’s exploration. She is currently exploring the use of the Zorn Palette and how its limitations can lead to unexpected outcomes. The work plays off the heritage of abstract paintings such as abstract expressionism but deploys new materials and methods such as the use of masking fluid and drop shadows, which allude to the illusionistic nature of the paintings.
