Biophilic design: the innate human connection to nature, underpins my approach to creating thoughtful, human-centred spaces that prioritise well-being. I translate this philosophy into environments that function effectively while fostering calm, focus, and emotional comfort.
I am driven by a belief that meaningful design emerges from experimentation. By challenging conventions and exploring new methods, I strive to produce innovative, distinctive outcomes that stand apart.
My project Zigeden, a student hub within the UEA Ziggurats, reflects this approach. Informed by research from Echoes of Ziggurats, it draws on the Japanese concept of Komorebi: dappled light filtered through trees. This inspired a forest-like spatial experience using indirect, sensory design strategies. By merging biophilic principles with brutalism, the design transforms a rigid campus setting into a tranquil, light-filled space that supports relaxation and concentration, framed by views of the surrounding lake.
