‘The Collective Archive’ is a contemporary third space through adaptive reuse of the ruins of St Mary’s Church, Norfolk. The purpose of the design is to reduce feelings of loneliness in suburban communities, aimed towards adults of all ages.
The design features five spaces that encourage socialisation, reflection, and collaboration to establish a collective identity. Walls made of soft limestone invite the audience to touch and leave traces on the walls, an intentional form of graffiti. The interior will evolve and erode but will become characterised by the identity of everyone who has been a part of the narrative of the site. This explores the notion of a palimpsest, the ruins narrative has been rewritten through the traces of a collective identity.
Throughout this project, I have gained and improved skills in conceptual exploration, problem-solving, spatial organisation, and visual communications. I am excited to apply these skills to future projects in the interior design industry
