Samantha Carter-Boardley
BA Textile Design
My name is Samantha, and I am a Textile Designer, specialising in using non-conventional materials for stitch and print applications, utilising those materials that are not wanted or treasured, and turning them into tactile, beautiful pieces of wearable art.
My final major project focuses on a manifesto of highlighting the neglect and abandonment of my seaside towns, most importantly, looking at my home town of Lowestoft. To do this, I have collected waste beach materials and used stitch, dye, and heat manipulations to explore these materials in all of their integrity. These pieces were then stitched into wearable garments: the bodice, the gloves and the headpiece, to explore how these waste materials intertwine within our daily lives. Through this exploration of materials, I aim to inspire others to utilise waste, to create what you can with what you find along the shore.
